Britain calls for a £5 coin
Coinstar has released their 3rd annual coin poll, once again delving into Britain’s weird and wonderful attitude to coins.
Nearly half of respondents want a £5 coin – could the worn out £5 note, like the £1 note become a thing of the past? The British public are always looking for a simpler life, with a quarter of those asked requesting a 99p to be added to the coin set. Maybe the nation is preparing for the summer heatwave and is under the illusion that a 99 flake still costs 99p!
It seems the British public were optimistically hearing wedding bells and hadn’t predicted the Royal split, as over 40% of respondents would like to see them on the front of a coin if the image of the Queen were removed. Prince Charles received 35%, with Prince Harry and his girlfriend, Chelsy Davy managing a mere 2.6%.
70% of those questioned would prefer the Euro to the Dollar if the currency changed. However, the next Prime Minister might not be happy to hear that the younger generation are not as keen, with over 40% preferring the dollar.
Then there are just some plain strange responses, when asked where they hoard their coins people said:- in m&m tubes, under beds, in a secret safe that looks like a candle, or in a treasure chest!
Alex Camara, managing director of Coinstar UK says “The poll throws up some surprises every year, with the nation’s love of coins and their quirky attitudes towards them. At Coinstar we allow people to put their savings to quick and easy use”
