How does Coinstar work?
It’s easy to convert your coins at a Coinstar machine. First, you select whether you would like to turn them into spending money or donate them directly to one of our charity partners. Whatever you decide, slowly pour your coins into the tray and guide them into the slot for counting. This only takes a few seconds. If you’ve decided to exchange your coins for cash, a voucher will then be printed. You take this to the customer service desk to convert it into cash or use the voucher to pay for your shopping at the checkout. If you chose to give to charity, you will receive a receipt confirming how much you have donated. After that, there is nothing more you need to do.
Do Coinstar® machines give me actual cash?
No. Once your coins have been counted, you will receive a voucher for the full amount to cash in at the customer service desk or to pay for your shopping at the checkout. You can also donate the amount directly to one of our charity partners at the machine.
How do I find my nearest Coinstar machine?
It’s easy. Just use the Coinstar machine locator in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. You can search by city or post code in the UK.
There’s an issue with the machine. Or, there’s a message saying it’s out of service. What should I do?
We’re sorry there’s a problem with a Coinstar machine. Our handy machine finder at the top right of your screen can direct you to another machine near you. A local Technician will have been notified that service is required.
Is there a charge to use a Coinstar machine?
We charge a 9.9% coin processing fee for cash transactions (but, fees may vary by location). There is a 7% charge for charity donations. The fee is deducted from the amount poured at the time of your transaction.
Do I need to sort my coins before using Coinstar?
No. Coinstar machines accept unsorted coins in your local currency. Patented technology even allows them to filter out foreign coins and other debris. However, these items may not be returned afterwards, so it’s a good idea to remove them beforehand if you can and take out anything that may jam the machine.
What if I have a large amount of coins?
If you are an individual and think that you have more than £2,000 in coins, please call our Customer Service department free on 0800 328 2274 as we may be able to provide special assistance. Manual assistance with coin counting services is not offered in France or other countries where it is prohibited.

Do I have to redeem the cash voucher at the store where I cash in my coins?
Yes. Because Coinstar reimburses each store for transactions processed by the machine at their location, we ask our stores to only cash vouchers from their store. Your nearest Coinstar® machine will almost certainly be in a store you already use though, so you can treat yourself to something you’re sure to want.
Does the Coinstar cash voucher need to be redeemed for cash the day of the transaction?
Most retail locations require vouchers to be redeemed the same day or within a certain timeframe. Please check with the store before you leave with an un-cashed voucher.
My cash voucher was lost or stolen. What should I do?
A cash voucher is just like cash. We’re unable to replace or refund lost or stolen vouchers.
I’m unable to read my voucher. What should I do?

Is my donation 100% tax deductible? Can I use the donation receipt for my taxes?
Yes, your donation is 100% deductible on your tax return and you can use your receipt in your tax documentation. There is also a gift aid form on the receipt that you can complete and return to the charity at the address provided. Gift Aid increases the value of your donations and means charities can benefit even more at no extra cost to you. If you're a UK taxpayer, the charity can reclaim the basic rate of tax on your gift.
I accidentally donated my coins to a charity. How do I get my money back?
Please call customer service 0800-328-2274. They will and provide you with a contact address and the steps you need to mail in your original receipt, along with your name and return address. Please note that the processing fee will not be refunded.
Can I donate to a charity not listed on Coinstar?
You can only donate directly through Coinstar to the charities that appear on the Coinstar machine.
Is there a fee to process coins donated to charities?
Yes, there is a processing fee for charity partners. The fee is a reduced rate of 7%. The fee enables Coinstar to offer the Coins that Count® program, paying for indirect and direct costs such as coin pick-up, coin processing, store revenue share, and bank processing fees.

How can I get removed or unsubscribed from receiving Coinstar marketing emails and offers?
To stop receiving email and offers from Coinstar, simply go to the bottom portion of any email you’ve received from Coinstar, look for your email address and click the unsubscribe link.
